Not sure if their design has changed since I used them. My only thought is what happens if you have to take a splice apart? I’m just not sure if there is a release on them or if you have to cut the wires off and start again. I used them mostly for lighting and they were fine. The wago’s seem to have come into fashion after I was in the field. When you troubleshoot or make repairs, it’s a lot easier to deal with wires that aren’t twisted into one solid connection. You just have to be mindful of making sure the wires are even and check to be sure it’s a solid connection after you put the wirenut on. I used to twist the crap out of wires but I learned it’s not necessarily any better than just letting the wirenut do it’s thing. The wirenut is designed to give them a twist as you tighten. Yesterday, as I was replacing a receptacle in a box where a previous owner had left me 3", and hadn't twisted anything, just twisted on some wire nuts and called it a day, I was thinking maybe Wagos were better than 45 minutes of my life getting this thing right.įor most wirenuts you don’t need to twist the wires. I mean, for low voltage stuff like my 3D printer or LED light setup, I'd use Wagos and crimped on ferrules in a second. So when making connections I always twist the F out of them, make sure I have a great connection on it's own, then appropriately tidy and trim and put a wire nut on it.īut lately, I've been watching a bunch of the Sparky Channel on youtube, his videos on the 2020 NEC, and he's often using the Wago Lever Nuts or Ideal In-Sure stab nuts and I started wondering if I'm living in the past. I have always avoided any of the stab-and-pray connectors, largely from hearing bad things about the receptacles with them in the distant past.
